This project transforms the rear of a traditional Victorian terrace, converting a series of dark, cellular rooms into a light-filled, open-plan hub for family life.
A seamless glass-roofed side infill brings natural light deep into the centre of the floor plan. This architectural intervention features an exposed structural steelwork, finished in a subtle tonal shift from the surrounding walls. Clever spatial planning retains natural light for the internal bathroom via a carefully integrated feature window.
Designed for modern family living, the new layout maximises functionality through a full-height wall of integrated storage. The kitchen is anchored by a generous central island, combining a hob and breakfast bar to create a highly social cooking environment. Positioned adjacent to the garden, the dining area and a compact lounge open entirely to the outside via black-framed fenestration, establishing a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces.
Externally, the extension is clad in charred black timber, offering a contemporary yet tactile contrast to the original house.
